Macau Grand Prix spectators were treated to a spectacular demonstration as Macau driver Andre Couto drove the Denso Toyota Supra HV-R Hybrid SuperGT race car around the tight and winding Macau street circuit for the first time. Its 4,480cc 3UZ-FE race engine has just won the 2007 Race Engine of The Year award and its circuit experience helps Green motoring says Toyota Motor Co. By entering hybrid systems into racing events, Toyota engineers anticipate discovering ways make hybrid systems more efficient and lighter. “This race car was based on the Supra GT used in Super GT races in Japan, modified and equipped with a special racing hybrid system,” explained a representative from the Denso SARD Supra GT Team. The car has a quick-charging capacitor system which was adopted instead of the usual rechargeable batteries, and three electric motors.
